Thompson’s New Cabo Hotel: Urban Flair With Baja Style
Thompson Hotels is promising that its first hotel in Mexico, The Cape, A Thompson Hotel, will be unlike any other property currently found in Los Cabos.
Most notably, the company will not forsake its signature mid-century urban aesthetic, but will blend it with myriad design elements from the Baja California region.
The property, which is scheduled to open this summer, is set on Monuments Beach, a popular venue for surfers, just a few miles from Cabos San Lucas.
“We are thrilled to expand Thompson Hotels beyond urban locales and introduce not only our first project in Mexico, but also a wholly distinct concept to the Los Cabos hospitality landscape,” said Niki Leondakis, CEO of Commune Hotels & Resorts. “Our mission for The Cape has always been to create an environment evocative of both the brand’s urban roots and the resort’s seductive Baja setting.”
In other developments, it was revealed that Eduardo Segura, the former managing director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board and a veteran of the hospitality industry, is serving as the property’s general manager. “Those familiar with Monuments Beach will recognize The Cape’s unparalleled location,” said Segura, adding its secluded beachfront setting provides easy access to myriad watersports activities and cultural offerings.
As for the property itself, all of The Cape’s furnishings will be handmade in Mexico and curated by the ceramicist José Noé Suro.
All of the property’s 161 rooms will be equipped with terraces, affording views of Los Cabos’ landmark Arch, a dramatic rock formation at the tip of the Baja Peninsula.
Its complement of accommodations will include one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites, and bi-level suites with private rooftops. Some accommodations will also feature hanging outdoor daybeds and plunge pools.
Two pools – one constructed from a natural rock formation and the other an infinity pool with swim-up bar – will be set close to the beach.
The hotel will also house a spa with spa and fitness center with outdoor cabana treatment facilities.
Other public facilities will include a 114-seat signature restaurant; poolside bar and grill; sunken lobby bar; and sixth-floor rooftop lounge and terrace with two bars and a sunken seating area with a fire pit. The lounge will offer sweeping views of both The Arch and Cabo itself.
Over the next two years, 2,000 hotel rooms are scheduled to join the Los Cabos’ hotel landscape.
The Cape is accepting reservations for stays that begin on June 13. For more information, visit thompsonhotels.com/the-cape.
